The old settlement was located in Southwest Richwoods Township, a short distance west of the present Curry Church on land owned today by Ruth Duncan. James was known in Miller County as "Black Jim".
Because he had a long black beard and black hair, theory for that name was so he could be distinquished from another James Wall in the area. Records indicate, the "other" James Wall was his uncle.
James was tall and hardy, loved the children in the area, was well known as a very successful livestock dealer, buying and selling livestock at his trading post.
Both he and Mildred entertained with large Sunday dinners inviting all who wanted to join them.
