FAMILY AND DESCENDANTS OF
WILLIAM AND ALICE (APPLEGATE) WALL
1____RICHARD WALL, BORN May 29, 1792, in Allegheny County, Pennslyvania, married Catherine Benner. He served in the War of 1812 and raised a company of Ohio Volunteers under President Lincoln’s first call, but was too old for active military duty. They moved from Columbiana County, Ohio, to Brown County in 1814 and to Hancock County, Ohio in 1823, where he died May 15, 1872, and she died August 18, 1868. He and his wife belonged to the Baptism Church, and he was a Republican in politics, a man of large stature and great physical strength, and a public speaker of considerable ability. They had children:
WILLIAM H. WALL, born _____, married in 1840 Sarah Archer and died December 17, 1891. She died March 22, 1902. They had three children; one died in infancy. William H. and Sarah Archer Wall. All dead now except Mrs. Sarah A. Hoyt of McComb, Hancock County, Ohio.
2____HENRY BENNER WALL, born October 19, 1819, married Mary Carl. They moved to Kansas where he died in 1889. His wife died in 1887. They had five children:
1) Henry B. Wall, Jr. born May 16, 1839, died in 1878.
2) Lewis L. Wall, born October 14, 1841, living in the west.
3) Andrew Jackson Wall, born March 31, 1845 – living.
4) George W. Wall, born may 12, 1857, went west.
5) Amey E. Wall, born September 12, 1860.
3----ALICE E. WALL, born November 3, 1822, married John Rader of Hancock County, Ohio, in 1843. She died May 3, 1904. They had children:
1) H. B. Rader, born April 24, 1844, living at Deweyville, Ohio.
2) Richard W. Rader, born July 9, 1846.
3) Amelia Rader, born July 25, 1852
4) Adam J. Rader, born April 9, 1859.
5) Alice M. Rader, born July 6, 1862.
4____AMELIA WALL, born May 3, 1826, married Adam Rader of Hancock County, Ohio, in 1846, and had children:
1) Sarah Catherine Rader, born October 24, 1847. Died in 1876.
2) H. W. Rader, born may 9, 1852.
3) Richard M. Rader, born July 19, 1854
4) Lucy A. Rader, born May 20, 1858.
5) Charity D. Rader, born August 10, 1865
2-----JAMES WALL, born May 2, 1794, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, married January 20, 1822, Rebecca Pangburn, daughter of William Pangburn, and died April 4, 1850. She died August 9, 1854, and both are buried at Buford, Highland County, Ohio. They had children:
1) WILLIAM WALL, born October 20, 1823, at Georgetown, Ohio, married August 20, 1845, Elizabeth Hirons. He served in the Civil War as a member of the 49th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and died July 11, 1862, in hospital.
2) HANNAH WALL, born May 19, 1825, at Georgetown, Ohio, married May 29, 1851, Leonard Earley, and resides at Exira, Iowa. They have children: Sophia, Alvin Herrick, Olive May and Mrs. Lillian Clarissa Crissman of Exira, Iowa.
3) ALICE WALL, born September 20, 1827, at Georgetown, Ohio, married March 9, 1851, David A. Weaver, and resides at Coppock, Iowa. They had children: Harmon Weaver of Coppock, Iowa. And Mary Weaver, deceased.
4) ELIZAETH WALL, born April 29, 1829, near Georgetown, Ohio, married February 5, 1845, W. N. Bingaman of New Hope, Ohio, and died November 7, 1898 at Georgetown, Ohio, where he now resides. They have three children living: Andrew Jackson Bingaman, Estella, married to J. A. Armleder, and Charles Bingaman, and five dead.
5) MARY A. WALL, born May 20, 1832, married September 20, 1855, Dr. Thomas Robinson and died _____. They have one son living, Andrew Robinson of Hammersville, Ohio.
6) SAMUEL WALL, born May 24, 1833, Georgetown, Ohio, died May 26, 1858, at Leon, Iowa.
7) REBECCA WALL, born October 5, 1835, died August 25, 1853.
8) HARRIET WALL, born December 14, 1837, near Georgetown, Ohio, died February 16, 1855, buried at Buford, Ohio.
9) JAMES T. WALL, born March 24, 1840, near Georgetown, Ohio. Served in an independent company of Ohio Cavalry in the Civil War, from July 9, 1861 to July 16, 1864. Went to Leon, Iowa, where he married Lucinda B. Moore, June 22, 1865, and died October 13, 1865. They had one daughter, Mary Wall.
10) CHARLES PARKER WALL, born July 5, 1842, at Georgetown, Ohio. He served in the Civil War under General Sheridan. Went to Illinois and married Mary Cowan of Georgetown, that state. They are both living at 1424 South First Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, and have five children: Charles, Frank, James El, Victor and Leon.
11) LUCETTA WALL, born October 14, 1846, near Buford, Ohio, died October 9, 1848, and is buried at Buford, Ohio.
3____MAJOR WILLIAM WALL, born June 14, 1796, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, was educated at the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, being appointed to that institution from Ripley, Ohio, September 21, 1818. After leaving the Academy in 1822 he married Elizabeth Thompson of New Jersey and settled at Georgetown, Ohio, where he taught school, practiced surveying and studied law. He served as an officer in the Mexican War under General Scott, with distinction; returned to his home in Georgetown after the close of the war, and accepted the professorship of mathematics in the Athens College of Ohio, where he remained for several years. He was also Commissioner of Public Works of Ohio. He returned to Georgetown from Athens where he pursued the practice of law and was proprietor and editor of the"Brown County Democrat” for some months prior to his death. He was a cultured gentleman, of high standing and ability, both as a lawyer and civil engineer, handsome in person and an attractive public speaker. He died November 17, 1856, and is buried in the Georgetown Cemetery. His wife died September 19, 1886, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lucetta Anderson, in New York City. They had children
1)ELLICOTT DOUGLAS WALL, born December 5, 1825, served in the war with Mexico, died October 18, 1850, and is buried in the Georgetown Cemetery.
2) ALICE JANE WALL, born September 26,1827, died April 18, 1848, and is buried in the Georgetown Cemetery.
3)LUCETTA QUINTILLA WALL, born ____, married James B. Anderson, who served as an officer in the C.S. in the Civil War, and was killed at the siege of Vicksburg. She had two sons, Arthur and Byron W. Anderson, and one daughter.
4)WILLIAM WALL, born _____, served in the Union Army in the Civil War, was wounded at the Battle of Bull Run, came home and died from the effects of his wounds.
5)HARRIET WALL, born May 9, 1834, Athens, Ohio, married Dr. John I. Nowotny, June 9, 1856, died at Cairo, Illinois, April 18, 1876.
6)LIZZIE A. WALL, born May 19th, 1840, in Athens, Ohio. Married June 19, 1862, Lieut. Colonel R. L. Curtis, died at Marietta, Ohio, October 14, 1874.
7)LOUISA DANA WALL, born January 5, 1842, Athens, Ohio, married to Richard L. Chadwick, March 15, 1863
